Fix funding for medical students

The issue

Currently, medical students are facing significant drops in funding during their final years of study. Compared with previous years, the drop this year is substantial and is primarily due to reductions in student finance while students are also in receipt of the NHS Bursary.

The BMA Medical Students Committee is calling for Government and Student Finance England to enable England-domiciled medical students to have access to their full Student Finance maintenance entitlement whilst claiming the NHS Bursary.

At a time when the Government is committed to getting the NHS back on its feet and increasing the number of doctors to meet patient demand, it is vital no medical student is forced into hardship, or to leave their study due to financial pressures.
