Currently medical students in England are receiving less funding in their final years then previous years, due to an anomaly in their student loan being reduced when they are also in receipt of the NHS bursary.
In a BMA survey of over 3,500 medical students, 90% of respondents said that current student finance and the NHS Bursary did not cover living costs, and almost 43% have considered leaving or pausing their course due to financial pressures.
At a time when the Government is committed to getting the NHS back on its feet and increasing the number of doctors to meet patient demand, it is vital no medical student is forced into hardship, or to leave their study due to financial pressures.
