After years of pay erosion where real time pay has been reduced by 30.7%, junior doctors in Northern Ireland have decided we have no other option than to ballot for industrial action.
Junior doctors deserve to be paid fairly. Not only do we believe we are not paid fairly for the work we do but we are also currently paid the lowest basic salary of junior doctors in the UK.
This year we are not even being given the below inflation pay award that was recommended by the DDRB.
Northern Ireland cannot continue to lose doctors to other areas of the UK and other countries where pay is better.
We do not currently have a Northern Ireland Assembly or Executive in place and the NI Secretary of State has refused to meet with us, so we are asking you to put pressure on MLAs, MPs and the SoS to ask for their support for an above inflation pay rise this year and a commitment to full pay restoration over the next four years.
We have created a template letter for junior doctors in Northern Ireland to send to their MLAs and MPs, and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, to make them fully aware of the pressures junior doctors are working under, the reasons we have decided to ballot for industrial action and to ask for their support.
Please write to your MLA, MP and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland today.
